The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was established in 2000 and currently consists of 55 members, including China, 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China, and the African Union Commission. FOCAC has held eight ministerial conferences to date. The theme of the 2024 Beijing Summit is “Join Hands to Promote Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”
At the opening ceremony of the Beijing Summit, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech titled “Join Hands to Promote Modernization, Build a Community with a Shared Future”. He announced the “six modernizations” to be advanced together with Africa: modernization that is fair and reasonable, open and win-win, people-first, diverse and inclusive, eco-friendly, and peaceful and secure. He also proposed ten partnership actions to deepen China-Africa cooperation: partnership actions for cultural exchanges, trade prosperity, industrial chain cooperation, interconnectivity, development cooperation, health and wellness, agricultural benefits for the people, cultural exchanges and people-to-people bonds, green development, and security building.
